Drumsticks are known for their high nutrition content & almost all the parts of the plant have therapeutic value. Drumstick soup is beneficial in treating asthma, bronchitis, arthritis, diabetes & low blood pressure. It helps to prevent infections of the skin, chest & throat as the plant has vital anti-bacterial properties. It aids digestion & weight reduction. It contains vital vitamins, calcium & iron which is essential during pregnancy & lactation. Besides, it is very effective against digestive disorders & is a blood purifier. It is used in Ayurveda to prepare herbal medicines, health tonics & beauty treatments as well. In fact the drumstick tree is a great boon to mankind.

Today’s post of Drumstick Soup is very tasty, healthy, refreshing & a great healer. It is very simple & quick to prepare. Enjoy this nutritious bowl of soup which is full of health & vigour… 😀

Ingredients :

  • 3-4 Drumsticks
  • 5 flakes fresh Garlic paste
  • 2 tbsps. Onion paste
  • 1 tsp. roasted & powdered Jeera
  • ½ tsp. Black Pepper pwd.
  • 1 sprig Curry Leaves
  • A pinch of Hing (Asafoetida)
  • 2 tbsps. fresh Coriander Leaves (chopped)
  • 2 tsps. Vegetable Oil
  • Salt as per taste

Spice Bag :

Tie the below mentioned ingredients in a muslin cloth :

  • 2 cloves
  • 1 small Cinnamon Stick
  • 1Bay Leaf

Procedure :
Wash, wipe, peel & cut drumsticks into 2 inch pieces.

Add sufficient water & cook till soft in a pressure  cooker along with the spice bag.

Transfer cooked drumsticks in a bowl with a slotted spoon& let it cool down.

Reserve the excess water used for cooking for further use. Squeeze out & discard the spice bag from the reserved water. This water is full of flavor & taste.

Extract pulp by slitting each drumstick piece & then using a spoon to scoop out the flesh.  Mash or grind the pulp to a fine paste. Discard the outer skin.

Heat oil in a deep pan. Add hing, garlic & onion paste.

Saute  garlic & onion paste till rawness disappears.

Now add the drumstick paste & reserved water. Give it a good stir.

Adjust salt to taste. Add pepper powder; stir & let it come to a boil.

You may add more water according to the desired consistency of the soup.

Garnish with freshly chopped coriander. Serve & relish this wonderful steaming hot  bowl of drumstick soup.
