We had recently been to Goa on a vacation & we enjoyed the sea food along with the sand, surf & the beautiful sunsets. Today, I bought some fresh Prawns & made this wonderful stir fry. My home was filled with the aroma of the delicious spices which are associated with my hometown Goa. With great pride & joy in my heart I am sharing this recipe which has my very own touch especially the masala paste. Enjoy! 🙂
- ½ kg fresh Prawns (shelled, deveined & washed)
- 3 med. size Onions (roughly chopped)
- 1 Capsicum (diced or sliced)
- 3 tbsps. Goan Rechado Masala
- 3 tbsps. Cooking Oil
- Salt to taste
Ingredients for the Goan Recheado Masala Paste :
- 10 Kashmiri Chillies (discard stalks & seeds)
- 4 Peppercorns
- 6 Cloves
- ½ inch Cinnamon stick
- 1 tsp Sugar
- ¼ tsp. Tamarind Paste
- ½ tsp. Cumin Seeds
- ½ inch fresh Ginger
- 10 cloves Garlic
- ¼ cup Sugarcane Vinegar
- Salt to taste
To prepare Goan Recheado Masala Paste:
Break the chillies into small pieces. Soak in vinegar chillies, peppercorns, cloves, cinnamon stick, sugar, tamarind paste, cumin seeds, ginger, garlic & salt for 20 mins.
Grind in a blender/grinder to a fine, thick paste without using any water. Store in a clean sterilized bottle. Use as required.
To prepare the Goan Stir Fry Prawns:
Marinate fresh prawns with 1 tbsp. masala paste for 10 mins.
Heat cooking oil in a wok on med.heat.
Add marinated prawns, 2 tbsps.masala paste & stir fry on high heat for 3 mins.
Keep aside in a bowl.
To the same wok add onions & capsicum & stir fry for another 2 mins on high heat.
To this add the prawns from the bowl & again stir fry & toss for another 3 mins.
Serve hot with fresh bread, hot chapati or steamed rice.
